The pileated woodpecker
Sets the beat, as the Jays
Fly from maple tree to
Maple tree seeking answers.

Red squirrels believe
They already know it all.
They chatter, fearing others
Will steal their truth.

It can be so noisy
With all the drumming,
Seeking, and chattering.
Yet, the noise is the light
To be felt and tasted.

The dead fly already
Knows this as she sits
Still. Committing to save
Them all, she begins to teach.

Words seem hard to find
And never sound quite right.
Misremembered and mispronounced,
They struggle to come out.

Pausing, grounding, and
Acting without words,
Volumes will be written about
How to live and how to
Die and how to live.
